MEETING WITH SENIOR MEMBERS OF THE HIGHER EDUCATION ACCREDITATION AGENCY

IN THE FRAMEWORK OF COMPILING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY BOOK OF BAN-PT

On the occasion of attending the seminar on the compilation of the 30th-anniversary book of BAN-PT, Prof. Dr. Fadel Muhammad (Vice Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia), one of the nine senior leaders and members of BAN-PT in attendance, conveyed a statement. He stated that BAN-PT has a clear existence as stipulated in Law Number 12 of 2021 concerning Higher Education, Article 51 (2), which states that the government implements a quality assurance system for higher education to achieve quality education. Furthermore, Article 53 explains that the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) is developed by Higher Education Institutions, while the External Quality Assurance System (SPME) is carried out through accreditation.

"Therefore, the existence of BAN-PT becomes a trigger for all personnel managing BAN-PT to prepare an Excellent Indonesian Higher Education. An excellent higher education institution becomes the locomotive to pull the wagons of national development," expressed Prof. Fadel in his morning presentation. Prof. Fadel concluded the discussion by conveying a message and hope for BAN-PT to become an independent institution under the President to gain independence and autonomy in managing accreditation in Indonesia across ministries and government agencies overseeing higher education.

The invited senior BAN-PT members also expressed their views regarding the current and future importance of BAN-PT in overseeing the quality of higher education in Indonesia. The number of higher education institutions in Indonesia is 4,475, spread from the western to the eastern regions, resulting in a significant disparity in quality. This is attributed to the lack of awareness and a culture of quality (quality culture) has not yet been ingrained in every element of higher education management and implementation

Director of the Executive Board of BAN-PT, Prof. Ari Purbayanto, Ph.D., delivered his opening remarks in the seminar, greeting all the senior BAN-PT members present and expressing appreciation and gratitude for their attendance. The presence of these senior BAN-PT members is crucial in preparing for the 30th-anniversary celebration of BAN-PT, which falls on December 15, 2024. Therefore, BAN-PT will prepare a book entitled "30 Years of BAN-PT Safeguarding the Quality of Indonesian Higher Education." The preparation for writing this book has started since March this year, appointing a Book Curator Team to help package the book into a popular scientific book that is enjoyable to read and easily understood by the general public.
